Active and Passive Harmonic Filters

The distortions of voltage and current waveforms are generated from non-linear loads (inverter, saturated transformers, rectifier, etc) and will shorten the life of AC motors (overheating with consequent damaging of the insulation materials), increase the copper and iron loss of transformer (saturation of the nucleus with consequent increasing of the magnetizing current) and shorten the life the capacitors (overheating).
